Have to vs. want to

I had an a-ha moment on the drive back up from Sedona this afternoon.

Now, I’m sure I’ve seen other bloggers write about this topic. Heck — I may have done it myself at some point, having covered many ideas over the years. But for some reason, today it just clicked: Lately, I’ve been approaching this whole diet/exercise thing all wrong.

I’ve been seeing it as something I HAVE to do instead of something I WANT to do.

I want to change that, starting now. I got a start on that today. I was actually looking forward to getting out for my walk through Sedona. (I admit, the thought of Starbucks waiting for me mere blocks away was a great motivator. I also fired up the iPod, so I had great tunes to keep me company.)

This attitude shift won’t happen overnight. I know this. But if I can just hold onto that feeling … that a-ha of discovery … the warm, fuzzy feeling I got from today’s walk … I know it’ll change eventually. All I have to do is remember I like to move.

I do — at least when it’s fun, like walking TO somewhere, or taking a Zumba or yoga class.

Like Julie likes to say, a good mood is just a workout away. (Check out some of her other motivational exercise mantras here.)
