Used to be, I’d come home from work at midnight or later and sit down to blog. Nowadays, weeks go by without my even opening my laptop after work. I bring it home, plug it in and then ignore it in favor of vegetating with the TV.
I guess my priorities have shifted. It’s time for me to shift them back, if you want the truth. I need to get healthy so I can live long enough to enjoy life as a full-time author.
No, that’s not me announcing I’m quitting my day job (I wish!). That goal is still in the distant future.
Anyway, what better day to hop back on the blogging bandwagon than What I Ate Wednesday? I’ll link up with the lovely Jenn’s post and we’ll all be happier and healthier.
I haven’t been the greatest about taking pictures, but I do have a couple from Tuesday. Overall, the day involved a mix of healthy eats and utter crap. I made myself some overnight oats when I got off work Monday night—but then I overslept and ended up just throwing them in my lunch bag to eat for dessert after dinner. With a dollop of Cookie Butter in the mix, they’re definitely dessert material.
That left me ravenous when I got to Starbucks at about noon. I ordered the new Caffe Espresso Frappuccino, just to see what it tasted like, and a tomato cheese square … because I was hungry.
When I left the Bux at just after 3, I ran to Wendy’s to grab something for lunch. (It’s a bad habit I’ve gotten into, and one I’ll have to break.) I got a crispy chicken sandwich — the new Tuscan one on cibatta bread — and a small order of fries. I could have ordered a somewhat healthier grilled breast, but I wanted the crispy one. (Have I mentioned how much crap I’ve been eating? I can’t seem to stop. Er — maybe I just don’t want to. Except that’s not entirely true. I do want to stop … just not as much as I want to eat the junk. I don’t know where my motivation has gone.)
I did order one redeeming thing at Wendy’s? A side salad to eat with my dinner.
I think they actually gave me the Caesar salad, but that’s OK with me. The last couple of times I’ve ordered the side salad at Wendy’s, it’s been topped with red bell pepper and cucumber. I miss the shredded carrots, and am not a huge fan of peppers on my salad.
The rest of dinner consisted of an evol. foods bowl: the classic Fire-Grilled Steak. As I ate it, I found myself thinking how easy it would be to make it for myself. I could mix up bowls and freeze them for easy meals all week long.
That’s the kind of inspiration I need. For so long, I’ve been focused on my writing. Somehow, some way I need to strike a balance where I make time to write AND to live healthy … all while holding down a 40-hour-a-week day job.
Blergh. I’m not Superwoman.
Here’s the only other food photo I’ve snapped recently, a snack at work Monday afternoon:
