WIAW: The GoFitGals Edition

Wouldn’t you know it? This week’s What I Ate Wednesday post coincides with my first day on the GoFitGals bootcamp plan. That means the eats are a lot more colorful — and healthful — than some of my other entries.

In this case, change is good.

Let’s get right to it. As always, thanks to Jenn for hosting the WIAW party.

Frittata with berriesVeggie frittatas and a GFG berry bowl — with strawberries, blueberries and grapefruit (!). Yes, I took a bite of one of the frittatas before I remembered to snap its photo.

Next, I did the first bootcamp workout: A 10-minute walk to warm up, followed by strength training. I can feel it now. It hurts to lift my arms above my head.

Then I futzed around in the kitchen, prepping lunch, dinner and a nighttime snack to take with me. Finally, right before I left the house, I whipped up a smoothie as my “morning snack.”

In the mix: Strawberries, unsweetened chocolate almond milk, chocolate protein power and ice cubes. Tasty.

At Starbucks, I stuck to unsweetened iced green tea. (I’d planned to bring a packet of stevia with me, but forgot.) The new fall croissant, butternut sage, looks delicious — but not tempting enough to make me stray from the plan on Day One.

When I got to work at 3, I went ahead and ate my lunch.

Egg Salad and GFG Raw Salad

Sweet egg salad on Wasa crackers and raw salad with homemade lemon dressing. I wasn’t sure how I’d like eating a bowlful of raw veggies, but it was tastier than I expected. Win!

At about 6, I snacked on a Kind bar.

Almond/Coconut Kind barThat almond coconut flavor is really good.

Dinner happened at around 8 p.m.

Chicken "burger" with kale chipsThe chicken burger with extra-crispy kale chips was tasty, too. And filling. But it didn’t stop me from indulging in a little snack shortly thereafter.

Chocolate "pudding"This chocolate “pudding” has a secret: It’s made from plain Greek yogurt and a couple of other ingredients. And I LIKED it. Amazing …

So far, the food has been delicious. And there’s so much of it. I was worried I’d be hungry all day long — but I wasn’t. It felt like I was eating all day long.

Guess that’s what happens when you fill up on real food rather than burgers and fries, eh?

I must say, I grossly underestimated the amount of time I needed to spend in the kitchen. I normally try to get to Starbucks at noon for writing time before work. Tuesday, I didn’t make it until 1:20. And that was with me doing a whole bunch of food prep over the weekend.

Ah well. I’ll set my alarm for an hour earlier today (9:30 instead of 10:30) and see if that helps me make it to Starbucks earlier.
