WIAW: Another back-on-track edition

4cbf2-wiawsensiblesnackingbuttonTuesday was a much better day in the eating department. Good thing, too, since it’s time for another What I ate Wednesday. I’d be embarrassed to admit to eating some — okay, most — of the things I devoured over the weekend.

But Tuesday started and ended on a good note, with more in-control excellence in between. I’ll be proud to link this baby up to Jenn’s What I Ate Wednesday party.

For exercise, I got in a walk of a little more than 20 minutes. In that time I walked slightly more than a mile. (Yeah, it was slow going — a pace of 17.something/mile. That’s not surprising, considering how sluggish I felt.)

When I got back to the house, I whipped up a smoothie.

Post-walk smoothie

Again, this one was green by choice. In the mix: 1/4 of an avocado, 1 cup peaches, 1 1/4 cups almond milk, 1/4 cup H20, 1 scoop of Vega Vanilla Almondilla protein powder, 4 ice cubes and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. I added the avocado for its healthy fats — and so I could finally try the avocado cutter the folks at Hass Avocados sent me a while back. It worked like a charm. So quick and easy, and you cut, slice and scoop all with the same tool. You know what that means: Fewer dishes!

While I packed my eats for the rest of the day, I finally broke open the bottle of kombucha I bought a couple of weeks ago. After being brave enough to buy it, I’ve been scared to actually take a taste.

Until Tuesday. The collage features pictures of the 8 ounces I measured out (because 1 cup has 1 WW Point), me drinking it (after a little nose-wrinkling) and my pleasantly surprised face when I liked it. It reminded me a bit of sparkling cider. Yum!

I forgot to take a picture of the Skinny Caramel Iced Latte that awaited me at Starbucks. Also unphotographed was the Eating Right brand BBQ Chicken Pizza I ate for lunch once I got to work just before 3 p.m. I dashed into the office, heated it up and then had to go straight to the “respectful workplace” meeting. Our occasional training on avoiding harassment (sexual and otherwise) was just as fun as it sounds.

When that was over, I treated myself to the Chobani Flip I’d packed for dessert.

I needed the pick-me-up, for sure. That’s the Peachy Pistachio flavor, and I loved it. What’s not to love about peaches, pistachios and chocolate chips?

What, I ask you. The answer: I didn’t love its 6 WW Points. That’s a lot for a dessert/snack, delicious or not. I ended up polishing off the 9 Blue Diamond Habanero BBQ almonds lingering in the canister at my desk, too. (They also went unphotographed. They look exactly the same as they have every other time I’ve eaten them.)

Dinner was another Asian Black Bean Burger — my last one — with a salad on the side. I made a little peanut butter/yogurt dressing, and also spread a wedge of Laughing Cow white cheddar on my Sandwich Thin “bun.”

FYI, there is such a thing as too much broccoli slaw. After discovering I liked the broccoli slaw/yogurt/PB combo last week, I doubled the dressing recipe and made a big bowl of broccoli slaw for dinner one night. The more I ate, the worse it tasted. I ended up not finishing it all. But when I tossed a little broccoli slaw atop my lettuce/spinach side salad, it was all good.

Since I ate my dessert before dinner, I helped myself to a couple of the home-grown apricots sitting in the break room with an “enjoy!” sticky note nearby.

They were tiny: Each of those little beauties was about a mouthful. But it was the perfect amount of sweetness.

Did I just say that? Don’t tell me I’m becoming one of those people who eats fruit for dessert.

Umm, there’s no danger of that. When I got home from work, I partook of a mini-drumstick.

Blame its sorry appearance on my freezer troubles. It was one of those things that froze and re-froze — but I didn’t want to waste them. I had about four … now I’m down to two.

I’ll try not to buy any more — although it’s hard not to feel cheated when I only got to enjoy one in its natural, unmelted state.

At least the new new freezer works. This time, that sucker was frozen solid.

    • Thanks, Amanda. I think you’re right: I’m getting caught up in trying to eat everything right … and I know that frustrates me in the long run, because I’m not perfect (and never will be). I love food too much.

    • Thanks. I used Insta-Frame. I’ve tried avocado in other smoothies and not been impressed, but this one was tasty.
