Small loss and a long-ish walk

First things first: I managed to eke out a 0.4-pound loss for the week.

If I keep losing at this turtle’s pace, I’m on track to lose another DietBet. $20 more down the drain. Grr. Do turtles growl?

Probably not.

Banana PB Cookie Dough Overnight OatsAnyway … In trying not to let the scale get me down, or the number define my day, I downed the breakfast I’d planned to have Sunday morning, PB Oatmeal Cookie Dough Overnight Oats from PBFingers. Then I laced up my sneakers and headed outside to enjoy the welcome return of spring-like weather.

I’m determined to earn more Points during Week 2 of the Spring Bootie Buster Challenge than I did in Week One — and, thanks to Monday’s 33-minute walk, I’m off to a good start.

It felt really good to be walking outside instead of on the treadmill. I discovered I actually walk at a faster pace outside than I do on the treadmill (closer to 16 min/mile vs. 18-20 min/mile). Of course, when I got back to the house, I realized when I set up my run on Nike+, I forgot to switch it from treadmill to outside. Wonder if that affects the distance.

I hope not. It was nice to see myself cover a little more than 2 miles in 33 minutes.

My iPod kept serving up great ’80s tunes, making me want to keep going for just “one more song.” My walk kicked off with some Concrete Blonde (Days and Days), then moved on to Motley Crue (Kickstart My Heart), B52s (Private Idaho), Depeche Mode (Stories of Old), Run DMC (Walk This Way) and Tone Loc (Wild Thing). It was like a trip back in time. I almost started dancing in the street several times.

Wait … that’s a completely different tune. Remember Mick Jagger & David Bowie’s version of “Dancing in the Streets”? I was in middle school when it came out — seventh or eighth grade.

Is it just me, or does he appear to be doing a side-bend?

Plus, I was enjoying the scenery in my neighborhood. I’ve said it before: I don’t mind snow if I don’t have to shovel it or drive in it. With 50-degree temps, it was melting off the roads and sidewalks, so I was better able to appreciate the beauty of our winter wonderland.

I spotted this friendly little guy on one side street.

The amazing leaning snowman reminded me of Monday’s HealthysELF challenge, to spend 15 minutes stretching. I snuck in some stretching after my walk, then finished it off the GoFitGals Desk Jockey Stretches video after work.

Again.

Again.

Post-walk, it was time for a shower and and smoothie. (Trying to get in those “freggies” for the Bootie Buster Challenge.) I packed some eats for the rest of the day, then whipped up another Tropical Mango Smoothie. This time, I added 1/4 tsp of coconut extract — a great addition. It added so much flavor!

I suppose real coconut would add the same flavor … or coconut butter. Mmm … coconut butter.

With lunch and dinner packed, I headed to Starbucks for writing time. An iced skinny latte, blog post, big glass of water and three trips to the bathroom later, it was time to leave for work.

Salmon-Quinoa Cake with Salad & friesI did not resist the pull of the Wendy’s drive-thru, stopping to pick up a value-size order of fries (6 WW Points) to go with my Salmon-Quinoa Burger and salad.

I’m quite aware of the futility of complaining about a tiny loss, then eating fries. Even though I had the Points for them, there are plenty of other, more nutritious choices I could have made. If I were to focus on higher quality foods, I’d probably go back to losing faster.

Just because I have Points for a donut doesn’t mean I should eat the donut.

At least dinner was full of veggies. I had another serving of my Noodle-less Spaghetti. It tastes just as good the second time around.

Noodle-less SpaghettiThat was my Monday in a nutshell: A weigh-in, a walk, lots of fruits and veggies (and some French fries), and work.

Some ups, some downs.

I’m looking forward to today, though. I took a personal day so I can go to the Valley of the Sun RWA meeting tonight. The guest is a Harlequin editor — and since I’d love to be published by Harlequin, making the drive to Phoenix is a no-brainer.

It’ll be interesting to see what my WIAW looks like on an atypical travel day …
