If you’re online, reading this blog post, it means the world didn’t implode on Dec. 21, 2012. Excellent, because I still have a lot of living to do.
When I saw these Christmas Questions on Glenneth’s blog, I knew I’d have to play along. So, without further delay, here we go:
1. How will you celebrate the holidays this year?
As happens most years, I’m working on Christmas Day. But since there’s no Christmas Day paper, I have Christmas Eve off. I’m spending it with the Boyfriend and his mom. Turkey dinner and such.
2. What’s the weather currently like where you live?
The snow that fell on Friday/Saturday and Tuesday is starting to melt, but it’s cold out there. And they’re predicting more snow on Monday. How much more, they haven’t said yet. I hope it’s not too much, since I’ll have to drive up the mountain to work Tuesday.
3. Do you decorate your home for the holidays?
I don’t anymore (who has the time?), but the roommates do. The outside of the house is all lit up. Inside, we have a tree and other decorations. We used to put up a tree with all the special ornaments I’ve collected over the years, but the last time we did that, the roommates’ puppy chewed up several of my ornaments. It’s kind of a bummer to not use them, but I don’t want to lose any more of them — and now that we have another puppy, that’d be a most likely outcome.
4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
“A Christmas Story,” hands down. I think I’ve mentioned it a few times before, but the boy in the movie, Ralphie, lived on the street my mother grew up on. I also enjoy “Four Christmases.” Who doesn’t love Vince Vaughn?
5. What is your favorite Christmas song?
Do I have to pick just one? If yes, then “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.” But I love everything on the Christmas Comedy Classics album. I’m also fond of anything by Mannheim Steamroller.
6. Do you have an advent calendar?
Not unless you count my Fitness Tree, which is looking pretty pathetic at the moment. So much for the 24 Days of Fitness …
7. Do you prefer color lights or white lights?
Colored all the way!
8. What is your favorite food to eat over the holidays?
I’m hard-pressed to pick just one thing. If I’m splurging, I’d have to say my mom’s corn casserole, made with cans of corn, butter, sour cream and cornbread mix. That stuff is fantastic, but I haven’t had it for years.
9. Do you display a live tree, or do you prefer fake trees?
Fake. The last time I had a real tree was in elementary school. Artificial trees don’t drop their needles. And now, we have one of those fancy pre-lit trees, so no stringing lights!
10. What would you need to make your holiday perfect this year?
The day off. “A Christmas Story” on an endless loop on TBS, Hot Dr Pepper in my mug and a nice, big (preferably carb-free) cinnamon roll in my hand. Maybe a movie at the theater in the afternoon — I want to see both “This is 40” and “Guilt Trip.” Cap it off with a walk around my neighborhood (or a more upscale one) with the Boyfriend to look at the Christmas lights.
Wow, a night at the office is going to be such a letdown after imagining all that! 😉
