10 things I couldn’t live without

The challenge? Thirty health-related posts in 30 days, using prompts prepared by the folks at WEGO Health.

Day 13: 10 Things I Couldn’t Live Without. Write a list of the 10 things you need (or love) the most.

What 10 things can’t I live without? That’s a great question … and another one that’s a lot harder than it sounded when I reviewed this week’s prompts.

I thought about saying air, water and food — but that’s too literal an interpretation of a prompt that’s meant to be fun.

Here, in no particular order, are a few of my favorite things:

My iPhone. Not only does it have the music I listen to during workouts, it also has a bunch of apps to keep me honest. I use one to track water consumption, another to count carbs. I even have an interval timer app that comes in handy for my bootcamp workouts.

Starbucks. Whether I’m getting an iced green tea or indulging in a low-carb “faux” Frappuccino, my writing time at the Bux is non-negotiable. I get so much more accomplished there than I do at home.

Splenda. I don’t need to explain this one, do I?

Atkins bars, shakes and treats. I don’t eat them all the time, but they’re indispensable when I’m on the go.

Pedometer. Trying to beat the previous day’s step total has become a game.

Scale. As much as I’d like to say I don’t live by the scale, the truth is, it keeps me on track. When I weigh myself, I know for sure whether I’ve been on track or fooling myself — and if I’ve been fooling myself, I know to step up my game.

My computer. I spend a good portion of my time on my MacBook, using it both for noveling and blogging.

My Ninja MasterPrep blender. Comes in handy on those days I’m trying to save money (or carbs) by making my own homemade fancy coffee drink. I also use it for dips and other things. It may be the best $35 I’ve ever spent.

Good shoes. Back in the day, I would have insisted they be Reebok high-tops. White, preferably — although I did consider myself lucky to get a pair in mint green, and would have killed for a cool hot pink or electric blue pair. (I was never a fan of banana yellow.) Nowadays, I buy my shoes more for performance, but a bright color will still catch  my eye.

Support. Whether it comes from friends/family in real life or from my online peeps, the encouragement and motivation I get from others plays a big part in my journey.

What one thing can’t you live without?
