The challenge? Thirty health-related posts in 30 days, using prompts prepared by the folks at WEGO Health.
Day Two: Quotation Inspiration. Find a quote that inspires you (either positively or negatively) and free write about it for 15 minutes.
The quote I chose to write about today?
“The voice in your head that says you can’t do this is a liar.”
This is one of many motivational/inspirational quotes I’ve found on Pinterest … In fact, I’ve found so many that I can’t choose just one, so stay tuned for a bonus quote at the end of this post.
I love the sentiment here — and I’m finding it to be completely true. There are so many things I say I can’t do when it’s not a question of ability at all. More often, it’s a problem of desire. I might be perfectly able to do something — sometimes I just don’t want to.
Other times when I say “I can’t do it,” what I really mean is “I’m afraid to try.”
This happens most often when faced with an exercise-related challenge — and I’ve been having a lot of those moments lately. I wavered for weeks before committing to Best Body Bootcamp, and while I’m extremely glad I signed up, that doesn’t stop me from thinking “I can’t” when I see certain exercises on the list. (Push ups, anyone?)
After my moment of panic, I tell myself “you have to try.” (Yeah, the promise of prizes keeps me going. I don’t want to miss out on the chance to win the cash prize at the end of bootcamp.)
And you know what? I usually manage to do the thing I was afraid I couldn’t — if not perfectly, at least passably well.
And “passably well” is better than the inactivity I’ve been used to.
Bonus Quote: “If you’re tired of starting over, stop giving up.”
With as many times as I’ve re-started my weight-loss journey, this one really hit home.
