Today’s the first Saturday I’ve had to work in a while. Unfortunately, it’s the only Saturday when I have something else planned. My writer’s group meets once every two months — so naturally they make me work on the day of the meeting.
Ah well. I used to do it all the time. It just means a rush back up the mountain after the meeting … and a really long day. I have to be up at 7:30 so I can attempt to give my Cocoa a bath with her new, medicated shampoo before I leave for the meeting.
Cocoa’s been itching a lot and losing fur. Until she started dropping weight for no particular reason, I thought it was probably allergies. The Zyrtec the vet told me to give her just stopped working.
Well, I was wrong: She has a skin infection. So now she’s on antibiotics and I have to give her three baths a week with this special shampoo. That’s going to be fun. And she has to go back to the vet in two weeks. Poor baby!
Since I had Cocoa’s appointment early this morning, breakfast was simple. I based it on the I blogged about last night:
Tasty and portable. Who could ask for more in a breakfast sandwich?
Wait just a cotton-pickin’ minute — I could. A couple strips of bacon would add something wonderful to the mix.
If only I could find sugar-free bacon, I’d be all over that. Sadly, every bacon label I’ve read has included some kind of sugar. Raw, organic turbinado sugar is still sugar, people! Grrrr.
Can I start counting down the days until that won’t be such a problem? Can I please? I did anyway. Today, Saturday, is Day 21 of my Whole30. Just nine more to go.
The vet wanted to keep Cocoa to run some tests (which, thankfully, came back normal), so when I left — alone — I saw people pushing things through the parking lot next door. I did a double-take before I realized what was going on.
Yes, CrossFit. I had no idea we had a box in Flagstaff. (See, Tina, I’ve been paying attention to the lingo.)
Having read about CrossFit so much on various blogs, I’m not ashamed to admit I’m curious. Too bad I’ll be in Prescott today for ”September Free Saturday.” (Seems like everything is happening today.)
The good news is there’s a free Saturday every month. (That’s what the website says, anyway.) “October Free Saturday,” here I come!
Or maybe not. I just checked out the fee schedule for non-free classes. It’d be considerably cheaper to rejoin the gym.
Then again, it won’t hurt to give it a try. If I hate it, I don’t have to worry about the expense.
The doors were open, and I felt guilty watching people sweat and strain from the comfort of my car. It reminded me that I didn’t get in a workout before Cocoa’s appointment. The most exercise I got was lugging groceries in from the car.
I doubt I’ll get any exercise today, either — unless I have to chase Cocoa around the yard with the hose.
